Our Story

Satchel is not your average store - it's a fusion of a studio and a retail space where we craft beautiful custom handbags and leather goods right in front of your eyes.

Our story began in 2006 when Elizabeth Seeger founded Satchel on Broughton Street in Savannah, Georgia. Originally, we carried accessories from other designers, but it wasn't long before Elizabeth's custom pieces started to take center stage. In 2009, Mahala Lewis Robyn joined the team and helped transform Satchel into a completely in-house brand. Today, we're a small but mighty team dedicated to maintaining the same friendly, small-town feel that drew us to Savannah in the first place.

In 2014, we moved to a new location at the corner of Bull & Liberty Streets in downtown Savannah. Our new space is designed with an open floor plan that allows you to watch our production team at work while you shop for ready-made goods. And if you don't see exactly what you're looking for, our Satchelettes are always ready to help you create a custom bag that's perfect for you. From choosing your leather to selecting your hardware, we'll work with you to bring your dream bag to life. Who knows, we might even name a new design after you!

At Satchel, we've been fortunate to experience significant growth over the years. As our demand for high-quality custom bags and leather goods increased, we outgrew our original production space. To continue meeting our customers' needs, we opened our sister company, Port City Sewing Factory, in 2017.

Port City Sewing Factory is a small-batch sewn goods manufacturing company that works closely with us to create new in-stock items regularly and batches of custom orders from time to time. Their skilled team is essential to ensuring that we always have beautiful products in our shop for you to browse and purchase.

Despite our growth, we're committed to maintaining the same small-town feel and friendly, personalized service that has always been at the heart of our business. Whether you're stopping by our flagship store in downtown Savannah or placing a custom order online, we're dedicated to making you feel like part of our family. So don't be surprised if you catch us sharing a family-style lunch or offering you a glass of bubbles while you browse our cozy, casual space. Boho Jill bag is a beauty

I purchased the Boho Jill in blue metallic leather via text message with the store. The bag is beautiful! I appreciate the two outside pockets for easy accessibilty. It also has two interior pockets for your keys or smaller item. The interior is very roomy and a magnetic snap keeps it shut. This is my fourth Satchel bag. I appreciate handmade, quality work over big name labels.

Reese - Perfect Travel Companion!

I grabbed this Reese in Granite for an upcoming work trip based on a friend’s recommendation. It’s the perfect travel companion, allowing me to keep my phone, ID and essentials in close reach. It’s comfortable to wear and gorgeous as well! Satchel makes the best bags and their customer service cannot be beat. That’s why I keep coming back! If you are considering Reese, go for it!

This bag is so luxe!

Monte Carlo bag, fabulous!

I’m in love!

Anniversary Trip

I was recently on my 25th wedding anniversary trip in Savannah. While walking around I noticed this cute shop I wanted to check out. I am super picky about my handbags and I wasn't expecting to find anything I was going to be wild about, but I was pleasantly surprised as soon as walked in the door. I loved just about everything I saw! I ended up buying not one, but two bags!! And a bracelet. The sales associate was super helpful and so personable she made the experience even better. I did not do a lot of shopping on this trip, on purpose, but I love this was the one shop we chose and my main souvenirs are my bags that I use daily and look at with fond memories of a perfect anniversary trip! They are fun and cute, and suit my needs perfectly!

Beautiful bag. Excellent quality.

UPDATE: After leaving my initial 1 star review, I was contacted by Satchel with an offer to remake my Pipers. The lengths Mary Kate went to make sure I was satisfied were very much appreciated. She sent photos of the remade pipers before shipping to make sure I was happy with the quality, spent extra time on the packing and presentation, shipped them out within 1 week and even followed up to make sure they arrived. It was a stark contrast to my initial experience but I am very happy with the final products I received.

Love the size of the clutch but was very disappointed with the quality/craftsmanship.

These Pom poms add character to the bags! They are great bag accents!

Very Useful Little Case!

I love my bi fold card cases! My colors are so pretty! I use one for IDs and the other for credit cards. I will definitely buy a couple more when you get colors in stock that will work for me. I love pinks and greens!
